How to use Earthworm Castings

The beauty of earthworm castings is that they are versatile and easy to use. They can be used on any outdoor and indoor plants. Castings can be worked into the soil anytime you plant (and don’t worry, you can never use too many castings). They won’t ever burn your lawn or plants like chemical fertilizers may. After initially mixing castings into your soil try applying casting tea once a week for optimal growth and vibrancy. You will see the difference! Here are some specific ways you can incorporate them into your garden: Vegetable and Annual Flowers - Line the bottom and sides of plant holes and seed furrows with 1" to 2" of earthworm castings. Set seeds or plants in place and cover with soil. Side dress during the growing season at a rate of 1/2 cup per plant or 1 cup per linear foot of row once every two months. Perennials - Work 1/2 cup into the soil above their root zone, taking care not to damage shallow roots. Apply in spring, early summer, and early fall. Potted Plants and Seed/Seed Flats - Use 1 part earthworm castings to 3 parts soil. Roses - For established roses, mix 4 cups of earthworm castings into soil 2-3 inches below the surface for each plant. Lawns - For new lawns, apply 5kg per 100 sq feet and work lightly into the topsoil. For established lawns, distribute as a top dress. Casting Tea - Soak 1 part castings in 3 parts water for 12 - 24 hours. Stir well and water as usual. Casting tea is excellent for fruiting, flowering, or difficult to access potted plants.
